Ezine
Advertising
Ezines proved effective form of
advertising for thousands last year, but bear in mind several things before spending your money on an order for
your ad.
* What is an
ezine?
* How to Select the Right Ezine
For Your Opportunity
* How long Should Your Ezine
Email Be
Ezine literally means
"Electronic Magazine", or an Electronic Newsletter sent to a list of subscribers who have "opted in" to be receive
the emails and be marketed to over a period of time from an individual or a group. The owners of these lists offer
ad space in their issues and newsletter broadcasts, that will go out to thousands of readers at one time. The fees
vary based on response rates, size of the list and the type of ad you wish to purchase.
*Important Note* The phrase "opted in" refers to a person submitting
their email address to a company and agreeing to accept the emails sent, often times by clicking a confirmation
link after they initially request to join the mailing list. By law, these emails all contain an "unsubscribe" link
at the end of each email should the person decide at a later point they no longer wish to receive the
emails.
Emails sent randomly to
addresses you've compiled by surfing the net are Illegal Spam! This is one of the number one reasons we use mailing
lists to send out our Ads. Otherwise, you and your opportunity can be shut down and possibly fined by the FTC. So,
don't do it!
If you're going to advertise
with Ezines, there are only 2 types of Ads you should be concerned with:
* Top Sponsor
Ads*
-or-
* Solo Ads
*
Top Sponsor Ads are short 5-10
line ad appearing at the top of the issue. Their impact comes from the fact that they are the first ad the reader
will see. (See example ad for more info).
Keep Top Sponsor Ads brief and
direct. Be sure to focus on what the reader will gain by clicking your link, and Always confirm that you've
included the valid URL (or valid tracking URL) in the ad. Nothing's worse than wasting a well written Email and
traffic you've paid money for on a dead link that leads to an error page.
Solo Ads are generally 60-65
lines long, although some companies may offer unlimited length. As their name implies, Solo Ads go out as the only
item in that particular issue, which is why its the recommended option for Ezine
advertising.
For both types of Ezine Ads,
Keeping your message as brief and to the point as possible will prove to be the most effective. Remember, your end
goal is to get the reader to click the URL you've included in the email. Be sure that your copy includes both a
call to action that will guide them to the link and an excellent incentive for clicking on
it.
It is also acceptable to
include your URL or tracking URL within the email several times, and its important that you sign off on the email
with both your name and your URL.
When you're looking for the
right Ezine, the first thing you should do is subscribe to that particular Ezine so that you can study both the
content and format of the emails sent. Examine the methods used by other advertisers.
Secondly, you'll want to pay
attention to the material and focus of the Ezine. If they specialize in job opportunities like medical billing or
data entry, then sending them in ad about nutritional health products or traffic generation secrets won't be well
received.
There's No Free Ride in the
EZine World:
Just like with anything else,
there's a direct relationship between the cost of the Ezine Ad and the responsiveness of the list. While it doesn't
mean you'll have to take out a second mortgage on your home, you will want to be cautious of companies guaranteeing
insane results for minimal prices. For your benefit, we've included some of the trustworthy Ezine's we're familiar
with at the end of this section.
Size isn't everything either
when it comes to Ezine Lists.
If a company charges $7 for an
ad that will run to 4,000 subscribers, the rate of response to offers is probably pretty low. While you may like to
test it out for yourself and see what type of results your offer can get, you're most likely better off with a
company that would charge $35-$50 for an ad to a list of 2,000 subscribers, as those rates indicate a responsive
reader group.
On a larger scale, an ezine
with 50,000 subscribers and that charge $10 per ad, also indicates a list that is not very responsive. However if
their ads ran closer to something in the $75-$100 range, then you would know the response rate runs quite
higher.
This is not always the case but
it is a good guide to follow when selecting an ezine.
There will of course be
exceptions to the rule, so it never hurts to do research on your own and see what gets you the best results. This
can be done by including a tracking link in your emails, and we'll cover that a bit more later
on.
Keep Track of What Happens
After You Press 'Send'
As I've mentioned before you're
going to want to include Tracking Links or URLs in your emails, so that you can test which Ezines deliver you the
best results. There's no reason to waste time on Ezines that don't deliver.
Here are the Variables you'll
be experimenting with:
* Headline/Title (what the
reader sees in their Inbox)
*Length of your ad. (longer vs.
shorter)
*Placement of your link
(middle, bottom, middle and the
bottom, toward the top, or all three
spots)
The best way to test is by
using tracking links.
There are a couple different
places you can get tracking links from that are inexpensive and easy to use.
Set up a NEW tracking link for
EACH different ezine or ad you test, so that you can see which ones perform best.
